Read: John 17:14–18; 1 Peter 2:9–12

Focus: Jesus prays for His disciples to be protected and made holy in the truth as He sends them into the world. — John 17:14–18

Key truth: Our home in Christ gives us a secure place from which to love.

Listening connection: “Not of This World.”

Devotion

The title Not of This World carries a strong sense of identity. It asks us to consider where we belong and whose values are shaping us.

Jesus’ prayer in John 17 helps us understand that identity. His disciples belong to Him. They will encounter opposition, and they need the Father’s protection. Yet Jesus sends them into the world with a purpose.

Belonging to Christ changes how we live among the people around us. We begin to question the messages that tell us our worth depends on achievement, possessions, influence, or being admired. We learn to measure faithfulness through love, truthfulness, generosity, and obedience.

That kind of change can be uncomfortable. The desire to fit in runs deep. So does the desire to be recognized. It is possible to know the language of faith while allowing the approval of others to direct our decisions.

First Peter calls believers to live honorably among their neighbors. Our identity in Christ should become visible through the good we do. People should encounter His kindness in our patience, His truthfulness in our work, and His mercy in the way we treat those who cannot offer us anything in return.

This is where the album’s title becomes a daily question for me. What does belonging to Jesus look like in the next conversation? In the way I spend my time? In the way I respond when someone interrupts my plans?

Our home in Christ gives us a secure place from which to love. We can loosen our grip on proving ourselves and become more available to others. The people around us matter to the One we follow.

Reflection

Which message about success or worth is competing most strongly with your identity in Christ?

Practice the path

Choose one ordinary interaction today and give it your full attention. Ask how your words and actions can make Christ’s care tangible to that person.

Prayer

Father, help me live as someone who belongs to You. Shape my desires through Your truth. Give me a generous heart toward the people You have placed around me, and let my life reflect the love of Jesus. Amen.
