Faith for the Unseen Road

Five Days of Learning to Walk by Faith

The view from the driver’s seat of an old pickup at sunrise, looking down a misty country road; a worn Bible and cassette tapes rest on the plaid bench seat. Text: THE QUIET PATH · Written on My Heart · Day 2 · Faith for the Unseen Road · 2 Corinthians 5:7

Read: 2 Corinthians 4:16–5:9; Romans 5:1–5

Focus: “For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7, NIV

Key truth: We may be unable to see the whole road, but we can respond to what God has already made clear.

Listening connection: “Not by Sight.”

Devotion

“Not by Sight” means more to me now than it did when I was young. It is easy to sing about trusting God when you have not yet faced many of the things that make trust difficult.

As we get older, we discover how much we cannot control. We make plans and encounter uncertainty. We pray and wait. We want to know how everything will work out before we take the next step.

Paul’s words about faith come in a passage that takes suffering and mortality seriously. He writes about weakness, groaning, and the future life God has promised. His confidence rests in God’s faithfulness beyond what he can presently see.

That gives this verse more depth than a general encouragement to be optimistic. Christian faith has an object: Jesus Christ, crucified and risen. We trust Him because of who He is and what He has done, even while we wait for the fullness of what He has promised.

Romans 5 gives us another foundation. Through faith in Christ, we have peace with God. That peace rests on His work. Our emotions may rise and fall, and our circumstances may remain unresolved, but we can return to what Christ has accomplished.

Walking by faith still involves honest questions, wise counsel, and careful decisions. We can acknowledge the facts in front of us and entrust the outcome to God. We can admit that we are afraid and still choose to obey Him.

Perhaps the next faithful step is an apology. Perhaps it is asking for help, honoring a commitment, or continuing to pray when answers have been slow. We may be unable to see the whole road, but we can respond to what God has already made clear.

The words I learned through a song have become a prayer: Lord, help me trust You with the part I cannot see.

Reflection

Where are you waiting for certainty before you will obey what God has already made clear?

Practice the path

Write down one uncertainty. Under it, name one faithful action you can take today without knowing the outcome.

Prayer

Jesus, You know what I cannot see and what I am afraid to face. Thank You that my peace with God rests in You. Give me wisdom for today and courage to follow You into tomorrow. Amen.
